A million years ago Altair was visually located near the Scorpio constellation with the red bright star Antares. A million years ago Scorpio looked different.

Altair is currently located in the Aquila constellation.

In about 138 thousand years Altair will pass at a distance of 2.63 parsecs from the Sun and will look like a very bright star of -0.62 magnitude.

One million years later Altair will be near the Orion constellation, which will be greatly distorted during this time.
