This video shows the path of the Moon in the sky before and after the total solar eclipse, which will take place on April 8, 2024. It is interesting that in just 5 days: from April 6 to April 10, the Moon will meet not only the Sun on its way, but also with all the planets: on April 6 – with Mars and Saturn, on April 7 – with Neptune. Also on April 7, the Moon will occult Venus.
On April 8, a total solar eclipse will take place, which can be seen in Mexico, the USA and Canada. At this moment, Mercury will be above the Sun. It will not be visible, because it will face the Earth with the unlit side. In Mexico, the total phase of the eclipse will last 4 minutes and 31 seconds. In the USA, the conditions for observations will also be very good.
The moon in these 5 days will meet not only with all the planets and the Sun, but even with a comet! On April 10, the moon will pass close to comet Pons–Brooks, which will be close to the peak of its brightness. For more information about the Pons–Brooks comet, see the previous video. Jupiter and Uranus will also be located near the comet.
Modeling and rendering were performed by author of this video using own software. Visualization of comet and its tail is also invented and implemented by the author of this video. The calculations took into account the mutual influence of the Sun, all the planets of the Solar System, the Moon and the comet on each other. Relativistic effects were also taken into account in the calculation. Non-gravitational effects associated with the comet nucleus matter evaporation were not taken into account.
